Prevention is better than cure and at North Heath Dental our aim is to help our patients to keep their teeth and gums as healthy as possible. Gum disease will affect most people at some stage in their life. This is usually caused by poor dental hygiene and if your teeth and gums are left without regular brushing, cleaning and flossing, it could eventually lead to a loss of a tooth.
The clinical term for gum disease is Gingivitis and it occurs when the bacteria from food, drink and smoke settle along the gum line at the base of the tooth. If it is not removed it will eventually harden into a plaque receding the gum away from the tooth it needs to be supporting. If the right oral hygiene treatment is not intervened at early stages, more severe symptoms will develop which could eventually cause one or more teeth to fall out. A more advance condition of gingivitis is known as periodontal disease and would require treatment by a specialist.
Gum disease is totally preventable and needs to be treated as soon as possible. Our dental hygienists at North Heath Dental are skilled at identifying early signs of gum disease and our dedicated oral hygiene programmes can help to reverse the effects. So if your gums start bleeding or are inflamed when you brush or floss, contact North Heath Dental as soon as possible and make an appointment for an oral hygiene treatment.
You may need to see the dentist first to be assessed before visiting our hygienist. Contact 01322 336401 or fill in the form below and a member of our dental team will contact you back as soon as they are available.
